My acne creams are effective on the spots I can see but I keep getting new ones in other areas. Do I need to start using other acne treatments?

Not necessarily. The acne process acts on large areas of your skin and not just the spots you see at any one time. You must know that the early damage and blocking of the follicles is under the skin and not visible.

Always use the acne products to the whole area that can be affected, and you will prevent the spots at an early stage from ever becoming a problem and also treating spots that you can find.

Does it matter when I use my creams?

It doesn't actually matter, so, if there is a common time that is convenient for you, try that. Just consider how you will handle some of the side-effects - such as bleaching of your clothing or bed linen by benzoyl peroxide. A strange side-effect with topical tetracyclines is that they fluoresce (shine) under ultraviolet (UV) light - so using them on just before going clubbing is not a great idea.

The doctor has prescribed Dianette as the best acne treatment for my specific type of acne, but I am only 15 and my mum will go mental if she thinks I am on the medication. I don't even have a boyfriend, so why should I take a contraceptive?

I have done basically well with Dianette and want to keep taking it. My doctor says I must put off now that my skin is clear, as it has more of a risk compared to other contraceptive pills. Can I insist on staying on it?
