Because of the large internal memory, Amazon chose not to add an SD expansion slot to the Kindle 2.

Faster Operation - Amazon had faster operation in mind when they built this second version of the Kindle wireless reading device. Page-restoring is much faster and it houses a much faster processor than its first version. There is now an International version of the Kindle 2 that operates in over a hundred other countries. The only valid difference in the International version is that it accesses an alternative network than the US versions.

Other advantages of the new Kindle include a better joystick, finer picture, a Whispersync option and a text to speak feature. Both versions of the Kindle wireless reading device are useful for reading and storing e-books and other digital media that you prefer. The one you need is based on how you want to use it.
