Inmarsat today launched its new worldwide handheld satellite telephone, the IsatPhone Professional. Retailing for as small as US$500, the telephone will be a 'game changer'� in this specialist marketplace.

The new service, Inmarsat's first worldwide handheld, offers an unmatched specification at one of the most competitive cost point within the marketplace. Extensive testing has shown that IsatPhone Pro has the market's longest battery existence and the most robust handset. These and other market-leading providers and features are now accessible at a suggested retail cost of US$699, with promotional costs anticipated to be close to US$500-600.

IsatPhone Professional provides as much as 8 hours talk time and as much as 100 hours on standby. The handset has protected an IP54 rating and is dust, water and shock resistant. It's also capable of operating from -20 degrees C to +55 degrees C, which may be the widest temperature variety of any satellite telephone.

Targeted primarily at professional users within the government, media, aid, oil and gas, mining and construction sectors, IsatPhone Professional provides high-quality satellite television telephony, text and e-mail messaging. Location information can also be viewed and sent in a text message.

The distinctive design of IsatPhone Pro, such as a fully-manoeuvrable antenna, enables the handset to become placed on its side for simple hands-free use via Bluetooth. IsatPhone Professional has an intuitive GSM-style interface with a high-visibility colour screen, and a bigger keypad for easy dialling in gloves.
